How come no one has picked up on this ? The guy actually lives close by, sad to hear this happened

And 120km is quite a big mileage the engine is far from being in its first flush of youth, doesn't look like this car has been treated with kid gloves.

What always surprises me about engine damage in the GR Yaris is that it always smashes the whole block and the damage is massive. This always requires a huge repair (huge in the sense of extremely expensive). I once had engine damage on my former RS3 8P. A classic ring ridge? fracture. I was able to have it repaired relatively cheaply by only "repairing" one cylinder and exchange the piston.
A video like that triggers me immensely. It was extremely stressful for me at the time (nervously and financially). That's why I'm still very cautious when it comes to engine tuning for the Yaris. So far I've only changed the look, suspension and exhaust (HJS downpipe, Invidia OPF delete and exhaust) and I'll leave it at that for now.
I wish Micha all the best for him and his car. He deals with it very openly and courageously. (y)

Agreed. Bolt-on upgrades and oem map, unless you‘re eager to take risks.

Catastrophic piston failure where the piston separates from the conrod. The rod then flops around and punches holes in things, usually the cylinder block. I count this One as number 4 on YouTube.
Different to Ringland failure usually from detonation.

Does it actually work? Meaning if you had issues with the ecu going into limp mode when hard braking or with proper lateral Gs… are those issues gone or logs indicate all is good instead?

Very curious to know…
