What's the deal with private plates? GR**PPY is the first one I've bought.

Do I need to get the plates made up myself or can the dealer do it as part of the putting the car on the road process?

So I was naughty and used a show plates website (no V5 needed) and I just chose 'legal style'.

Then you'll get a retention certificate sent in the post, take that and your plates to the dealer before hand over and they'll assign it to the car.

I got mine made up by the plate sales site, and it's on retention. I'll swap it onto the car once I've picked it up using the online process.

just an FYI as I see some of you have bought your own plates. If you send your certificate to your dealer, they will register and make up the plates for you, will save you the cost of the plates (included with delivery) and you get to pick up the car on your private plate ??
