Rearview mirror in the way. Possible (hi tech) solution

Latest Mercs are good as camera is behind the badge on boot lid which pops out when reversing, think some other manufacturers do same. ? I'm already committed to cleaning rear window every time I stop anywhere so camera will get a quick clean too.
That's such a simple and effective solution! Why don't all manufacturers do that?

On the Civic there's just a camera on the outside. Gets filthy very quickly. I've now got into the habit of wiping the lens with a finger every time I go near the boot of the car.

Defo going to be modding a periscope onto the car now. UP PERISCOPE!

also thanks for the check on the legislation @MasterVentris

-edit-
Missed the word excluding periscopes. I'm sad now.
Think a periscope is OK, based on 2.1. It's just not a "mirror" as defined by 2.1.1, but is an acceptable "device"

?

Having re-read the requirements, sections 4 and 5 go on to talk about E marks and type approval.

However 6.1 is specifically about reflective mirrors and their size, camera systems only get mentioned in 6.2.

This would imply that to be compliant with the MOT regs, and the rules of key 'D', it must be a reflective surface, not a screen. The MOT rules only use the parts of the ECE regs they like, not all of them. This means we have stricter rules in the UK than what the ECE agreed.
Doesn't the Honda E only have cameras, instead of mirrors?
