after trying the TGR mirror riser, which wasn't so much a sliding fit as a major interference fit requiring the services of a light hammer, I gave up and removed the mirror altogether. I then recalled a small stick on mirror I had bought when I was teaching my lad to drive. Lo and behold it fits the hole where the original mirror was perfectly and the view through it is fine. No major vibration issues. So it looks as though I could have fixed the issue at nil outlay (I think the mirror originally cost around ÂŁ3.50.
