The soundstage becomes VERY "front" due to tweeters being positioned so far down the A-pillar. I run a +2 front with stock rear speakers and swapped fronts for the Focals. I normally don't mind sound a tad bit infront of me but in this car it's too far forward and too much of highs/voices since the tweeters do handle a rather large frequency range (lower than tweeters do in 3-way kits by thousands of hz) so myeaaaah....

You don't need to go full 100% front if you only swap front speakers. Rear can do a bit off fill and keep the soundstage "around" the seats still without ruining the sound. The speaker upgrade is ALWAYS worth it though. Sounds excellent when stationary and of course only so-so when driving at highway speed but you get alot better sound at higher volume.

Stock speakers go bonkbonk-base and muddy at 38-40 volume whereas aftermarket easily handles 50 volume and more depending on EQ and which speakers. And it's needed for highway driving if you want to hear anything except hisses and a little bit of bass :p
Fantastic, that's really helpful thank you!

Happy to pull the trigger now 😁

I have now aslo done this upgrade, I purchsed from CAS they asked me after ordering if it was for a GR so they could send the correct connectors, fitting was not too bad but the tweeters were difficult to change due to the clips on holding the trim the video does not explain removing them very well.

Very happy with the results for £250 its a no brainer sound is now so much better.
Can I ask how you disconnected the clips holding the trim in the end? Is there a latch to press or just using a bit of force?

Cheers.

I pulled out at the top with a bit of force. Then there's a clip in the middle that also pulls out with force. At the top there will still be a clip on a long piece of plastic. You need to press tabs in at the chassis a pillar and pull the pillar trim away to disconnect fully.

I just fitted my components yesterday, well worth the upgrade!

One slight negative is that the engine noise that's piped in now feels too bassy and a bit annoying. Had anyone disconnected and seen whether this improves it?

(Car has no engine mods)

Fake engine boise iff is done at Toyota or through the Carista app, a must with aftermarket speakers. It sounds pretty horrid even with stock speakers, too unnatural whereas the real engine sound is fine with it off. Sounds more mechanical and simply real.

would also recommend disabling noise cancellation (yeah this box on wheels car has that). It'll ruin frequencies in music when trying to countrr road noise. Also disableable just like fake engine noise, app or dealer.

ANC = noise cancellation
ESE = fake engine sound (both off in app or specified on dealer receipt)

Enjoy the sounds! Use Apple Music over Spotify if you run an iphone and carplay for better sound quality!

Thanks, that's useful to know! Will look to have both disabled soon 👍🏼
