I know i've read alot of claims about torque mount replacements and polybush inserts (powerflex) blabla, didn't think it'd be SUCH a huge difference. Actually way beyond expectations, i'm completely shocked! And therein disappointed in Toyota for using the OEM toruqe mount, takes away SO much of the drive feel and shifter feel especially. Also, everyone always stating "Torque mount already worn out" are, not trying to cause drama or point fingers, wrong. It was designed that way which is even more infuriating. All new mounts look like ours after X miles.
Went with the black Powerflex insert, saw no reason to go with yellow since the rubbery edge remains when inserting them into the stock rubber mount.
I could not believe the difference driving off the workshop ramp and home afterwards. Within 10 meters, shifting from first to second and especially ´high RPM up/downshifts, it's completely taught, slick, solid and SO satisfying! Shifting in (not too sharp) corners at 4k RPM just to try the movement of the thing, going over speed bumps and shifting when atop one as the car is still climbing/coming off one, 100% rigid and slick. Why did our cars not come like this from factory? I've been thinking "car's great in so many ways but the shift action and engine judder is quite poor" so many times, even had gear grind once because of it!
But now it's literally turned it into a Type R gearbox. So yeah, the gearbox itself is great and fine in every way, the stock torque mount choice is beyond belief awful. The rubbery feel of resistance when sometimes trying to shift or go from 2nd to 1st gear is also completely gone (of course). It's so sorted, can't state it enough!
I'll be objective; Zero added vibrations or NVH as far as I can tell but if there is any it's probably disgused by my modded stock exhaust which does add some NVH and burbly vibrations on idle. Don't see a reason for it to suddenly start to judder and shudder because of these inserts, ultimately the rubber bushing (oem) i still between the polybush and the steel frame of the torque mount.
Man, this is one of those smoke-cigar-in-delight moments! Had I known the difference was THIS big I would have baught a polybush insert whilst on the way to pick up the car! No plans to change or mod the engine mounts though. This is perfect by my book!
