Anyone driven one, owned one, or have any thoughts about them ?
That engine sounds just like the GRY's?!I think that the test drive video by Henry Catchpole perfectly reflects how one should approach the Up Gti.
On the contrary, in the current climate of more hp and dragy times, lots of people are getting sucked into buying cars that are way too capable to actually be genuine, simple FUN for their actual use in the real world with traffic and speed limits.Thank you very much for all the comments..... It's always good to get other people's perspective.... Glad I've not been too roasted for my decision ??
Ordered the 3 door in blackMy friend literally just bought one. I love the look of it. 115bhp if I recall, I actually did a comparison of how it compares with a GR actually, wheel torque , g per gear etc.
He seemed set on the idea that he would remap apparently good for 145bhp
The engine has a good torque output, however like most modern car kinda runs out top end, but this means more power at the lower rpm than a typical NA.
The GR is faster but remember fast doesn't always mean fun. The best for you is the best car for you, not what the internet says, so you'll get no hardship from me selling the GR, stick around and show us the pics of the UP.
It's very well packaged, similar in way to the GR , turbo 3 pot, wheels at corners.
Did you get 3dr or 5dr (weirdly only car I actually prefer the 5dr version of)
Almost...but not quite. Its a 3 cylinder same as GRY, only 1.0 liter though. At times it produces some harmonics that can somehow "ever so slightly" relate to a small "half flat-six". But it doesn't get that angry revving after 5,500 RPM. It kinda says "no need to rev me up to red line", and indeed going up to 6,200 (red line) is almost counter-productive.That engine sounds just like the GRY's?!
I have a 5 door Seat Mii and am relieved I didn't buy the 3 door. The boot is tiny so have the dog crate on the back seat and put shopping on there also. The back seats are nowhere near flat when down which is poor so I need the back seat access. Can reverse it into those little corner spots filled with brambles where I take the dog 5 times a week that other drivers can't as they need to get into the boot. 2 back doors make it so usable - but yes the 3 door looks sportier admittedly. Never use the back seat in the GRY but all the time in the Mii and shows how different people view things.Nice. I never understand why people order the 5 door ?
Here in Yorkshire they are called the "Ey UP".I don't think I could own an up! because of the grammar issues alone.
Only the electric version surely? Here in Yorkshire they are called the "Ey UP".
Arrived today.Interesting to read the previous posts.
I have after much head scratching, sold the Yaris and have purchased an UP Gti .
To my surprise new UPs are like hens teeth, I managed to find a white 3 door at a dealers about 300 miles away.
it's a leap of faith given I have never driven one.
When thinking about a GR Yaris replacement the choices are limited.
I was looking for a small 3 door car, fun to drive, but with reasonable refinement .
Having owned an Abarth 500 and 595 Competizione I was looking for something different .
The UP ticks most boxes. But I'm slightly nervous of the loss of some 140 hp or so compared to the Yaris but am hoping the Up will be similar ish to the original Abarth 500.
Reasons for selling the YARIS ?
The main reason was most unexpected. I for many years have suffered badly from Tinnitus. The road/tyre noise from the Yaris on the course tarmac Scottish roads was simply terrible, to the extent that it has made my Tinnitus much worse.
Beyond that I had the normal niggles of too many driving aids, and lifeless steering etc.
Another factor was timing, with so many used Yaris now being advertised I suspect this may signal the end of silly second hand prices in the months to come, hence I was able to agree a great sale price with my local main dealer.
Time will tell if I have made the right decision.
