We had one for 2 and a half years that we sold for the GR, really good little car apart from one thing, the suspension was terrible, it made the GR feel like a Bentley over potholes, they are really bad for blowing tyres due to the profile. We hardly lost anything on it and it is actually worth more now than when we bought it according to WBAC!

My nephew has one really good quality build and sure he paid a little over ÂŁ16k took delivery during that first lockdown. They aren't super fast or powerful but a big step up from the standard UP. I think they hold their money quite well.

Thank you very much for all the comments..... It's always good to get other people's perspective.... Glad I've not been too roasted for my decision ??
On the contrary, in the current climate of more hp and dragy times, lots of people are getting sucked into buying cars that are way too capable to actually be genuine, simple FUN for their actual use in the real world with traffic and speed limits.
Even the Yaris is at risk there and even within Yaris ownership, the risk of thinking one needs more performance again when one actually wants more fun...
But it all depends, for quite some the Yaris is aready that fun step back from something much quicker and/or heavier again.

Choose your car for yourself, not for others...

My friend literally just bought one. I love the look of it. 115bhp if I recall, I actually did a comparison of how it compares with a GR actually, wheel torque , g per gear etc.

He seemed set on the idea that he would remap apparently good for 145bhp

The engine has a good torque output, however like most modern car kinda runs out top end, but this means more power at the lower rpm than a typical NA.

The GR is faster but remember fast doesn't always mean fun. The best for you is the best car for you, not what the internet says, so you'll get no hardship from me selling the GR, stick around and show us the pics of the UP.

It's very well packaged, similar in way to the GR , turbo 3 pot, wheels at corners.

Did you get 3dr or 5dr (weirdly only car I actually prefer the 5dr version of)
Ordered the 3 door in black

That engine sounds just like the GRY's?!
Almost...but not quite. Its a 3 cylinder same as GRY, only 1.0 liter though. At times it produces some harmonics that can somehow "ever so slightly" relate to a small "half flat-six". But it doesn't get that angry revving after 5,500 RPM. It kinda says "no need to rev me up to red line", and indeed going up to 6,200 (red line) is almost counter-productive.

You won’t regret the purchase - it’s a top little pocket rocket that doesn’t take itself too seriously ! I had one from new for about 18 months / it was the last of them before the recent price rise in 2020. Mine had all the extras like beats / heated seats / proper climate control / random city brake sensor thing / parking sensors / black roof body in white - only didn’t have the sunroof which is far too much weight too high. Drove it for 7000 miles and must say it was an epic little drive - 45mph feels like 60mph and it loved B roads and dashing around journeys up to 20miles - the stock Goodyear tyres ruin it so had MPS4 fitted within first 1000 miles. I changed the front bulbs for brighter units and had a short private plate on it which really helped its proportions imo- it was ceramic coated and looked the business out and about when clean and a dream to park anywhere with no fear of it getting stolen. I must say it is deffo a car I will miss and reminded me of the 80s and 90s hot hatches I couldn’t afford at the time. It also sold well and cost me 1500£ In total depreciation at time of offset against my GR. I would have kept it for my eldest son to learn to drive in but insurance a nightmare for new drivers obviously. As others said it didn’t get on with speed humps or pot holes which both felt like hitting a brick wall at times - I nearly went the modding route that was tempting as all the kit was very reasonably priced for remap / suspension/ exhaust but held off as knew I would not keep it for long..

it’s a very different offering to GR clearly but still a car worth owning to enjoy for a while - like the Abarth I enjoyed owning before the Up - the abarth handled £hit and was less refined than the Up which had a nicer interior imo - but the abarth sounded the nuts with its raspy exhaust and pops and bangs about town ! That’s another car I miss owning but you can’t keep them all !!!!

Nice. I never understand why people order the 5 door ?
I have a 5 door Seat Mii and am relieved I didn't buy the 3 door. The boot is tiny so have the dog crate on the back seat and put shopping on there also. The back seats are nowhere near flat when down which is poor so I need the back seat access. Can reverse it into those little corner spots filled with brambles where I take the dog 5 times a week that other drivers can't as they need to get into the boot. 2 back doors make it so usable - but yes the 3 door looks sportier admittedly. Never use the back seat in the GRY but all the time in the Mii and shows how different people view things.
I am already thinking that in a few years I would like to trade it in and get the GTi. I love the Mii, UP and Citigo. Perfect little run abouts and mine helps keep my GRY out of harms way and only costs ÂŁ20 tax.

We've had one from new in 2018. Now on nearly 30k miles. We run it along side the GR Yaris as a daily. Mainly the wife uses it though.
Absolutely love ours. 3 door in white with black roof. Easily does 60mpg on a run, cheap to fill up. A full tank was 37 quid over lock down.

Mega fun for what it cost us. I think they have had a price increase since we got ours but sure we only paid about 13k after a discount.

Quick enough most of time....it seems to piss off Audi and BM company car drivers that think an Up shouldn't be overtaking them. Other road user defiantly treat you differently driving an Up. I reckon most think its a 60bhp one and have no idea the GTi exists.

Its tiny too so very easy to park.

One thing to note is the tyres it comes with are absolute garbage. Made of moon rock. We changed to Michelin PS4 and it transformed to ride and handling.
Main headlight bulbs are also gash. Ive seen brighter candles. A swop to brighter white type solved that.

No intention of selling ours. What would we replace it with thats as fun, economical and looks cool for the cash?

Shout up if there's anything specific you would like to know.

My wife has one. It's a cracking little car to drive.

We have a few nice bits but the problem with most of them is you need a track to exploit the performance. No such problem with the Up!

To anyone who hasn't driven one I'd say go for it. They aren't fast, but they are fun. Tardis-like inside, too.

Ours only does about 35mpg, but that's at full-spank everywhere!

Nice cars the VW Up GTi my nephew has one and it was half the price of the GRY. So well worth the money.

Interesting to read the previous posts.

I have after much head scratching, sold the Yaris and have purchased an UP Gti .

To my surprise new UPs are like hens teeth, I managed to find a white 3 door at a dealers about 300 miles away.

it’s a leap of faith given I have never driven one.

When thinking about a GR Yaris replacement the choices are limited.

I was looking for a small 3 door car, fun to drive, but with reasonable refinement .

Having owned an Abarth 500 and 595 Competizione I was looking for something different .

The UP ticks most boxes. But I’m slightly nervous of the loss of some 140 hp or so compared to the Yaris but am hoping the Up will be similar ish to the original Abarth 500.

Reasons for selling the YARIS ?

The main reason was most unexpected. I for many years have suffered badly from Tinnitus. The road/tyre noise from the Yaris on the course tarmac Scottish roads was simply terrible, to the extent that it has made my Tinnitus much worse.

Beyond that I had the normal niggles of too many driving aids, and lifeless steering etc.

Another factor was timing, with so many used Yaris now being advertised I suspect this may signal the end of silly second hand prices in the months to come, hence I was able to agree a great sale price with my local main dealer.

Time will tell if I have made the right decision.
