That's an excellent observation @eqcons, it defiantly would make the whole subassembly issue easier. But I see one problem, the EU spec cars have an airbag warning light that the Rest of World do not. Nothing to stop someone using the RoW switch panel and hiding the airbag light behind the dash.

If the base panel fits, I reckon modding it to take the light somewhere would not be too hard maybe?

Sounds like the steering wheel is the bigger problem to solve. More study of the parts catalogue and found the part number for the steering wheel: 45100-52700-C1 update: quoted JP¥57,200

However I've no idea what else is needed. Maybe the clock spring needs changing, maybe it doesn't. Would need to pop the steering wheel off a car with the wiring (none of the UK cars will have this) and study the existing wiring.

Honestly I think for the wheel aftermarket is going to be easier. There are plenty of aftermarket heated steering wheel kits available. The biggest headache is going to be having someone effectively re-trim the wheel for you and include the heating element, of course meaning you'll be without the wheel for a week while they do it.

Difficult is a subjective term. It's about the same effort for either so I'm going to focus on the steering wheel as that's what people are saying is more important. I had a quote form Japan for the factory heated steering wheel which came in at close Y60,000!!!

I managed to get into the detailers workshop for a recce of the wiring and first indication are posative as it appears that the relay box is pre-wired :) More work is needed to see how much else is pre-wired but I can confirm there is 12V+ live. Looking at the wiring diagram I'm assuming pins are numbered bottom to top as only 1,2,3,5 are used which would make the top row 3,4,5. Going to need to order/see the relay diagram to know for sure.

UPDATE: There are two relays missing on this Circuit Pack car. Top one is heated steering wheel. The bottom one if listed as 'securing-warning' for LHD EU6 & Israel

I don't even like heated seats, but loving this thread. I avoid anything electrical (it's invisible & it can kill you) & last time I fitted a stereo there was an incident involving smoke & a hot wire burning through the dash ?
Still makes for interesting reading though ?
Oh don't you I prefer having the heated seats on as opposed to the heater blasting out. :)

Don't forget to add shipping, duty and VAT on top of that price form Japan. Be interesting what the price is from a European/GB dealer.

Switching back the heated seats, everything is powered from the power distribution boxes behind the glove box. The fuses are on the bottom so as to be assessable with the glovebox in place. We'Il need to get access to the back of this module to see the plugs for the interior power. In particular pins 39 (Green) & 40 (Red). While there are five fuse boxes in the catalogue there is only one listed for Europe, there is a good chance that this retro fit, from a wiring point for view, is very straight forwards.

To those who have asked about the seats, on first inspection they do not appear to come with the heater elements already installed. There is a blank wire housing just waiting for you to pin into :) As for the four heat pads needed ToyotaGB want £200 each +VAT, I've been quoted Y5,000 from Japan. And don't forget the 2 switches at £145+vat. Sadly we can't buy the switches from Japan as they're EU market only. So that's a little over £1200-1300 on OE parts. Ouch.

Getting pricey, and complex.

This is what I'm looking at, probably the kit with the rotary heat switch.

From £350 at their workshop, mobile fitting also available. Run a fused line off the battery and a relay on switched live.

Potential heated wheel solution, factor in retrimming and downtime. Wired as above. Probably both done for £500-600.
