I'm always surprised how many people don't see that shortening this gives the same 2 characters! ?
Plus the different terms used in each country to differentiate the two models. Then some countries fit the JBL system in that model...

Non-premium Stereo set ups only is mentioned on the Focal site. I tok that to be non- JBL.
Yes, that's right. That doesn't necessarily mean it couldn't be fitted in the JBL equipped model. The door mount for both seem visually much the same, but the speaker plugs could be different. I'd be happy with ditching the JBL 3 ways for a higher quality 2 way component set up.

This kit comes with proper speakers but does not have plug and play connectors.

As I would like to turn it back to stock if needed it is not the best solution.

Has anyone found adapters that could make them plug n play?
I couldn't find anything that made it plug and play. Not off the shelf, anyway. I made a harness to use some of the factory pins feeding the OEM amp. This makes it reversible as you can simply unplug them, but it is a bit messy.

There's a video on it here: https://gr-yaris.co.uk/forum/threads/diy-stereo-upgrade-all-speakers-amplifier.3523/

A warning.

I swapped to the Toyota Focal speaker kit some time ago. Bass vastly improved, treble more refined. But midrange wasn't flat. After fiddling I've come to the conclusion that the head unit has a quite tweaked frequency response MATCHING the OEM speakers by compensating the OEM speakers flawed frequency response (by raising to compensate a dip around 1kHz for example). When swapping to speakers with a more flat frequency response the head unit messes this up by still raising around 1kHz with a significant amount.

So I had to get an EQ in some way. Solved that with an Alpine under seat sub with built in DSP for all speakers. But will take a bit of tweaking....

Bought the Eton kit from Hasler but I really do not like to cut the original wiring.

So I bought the Focal kit aswell to use as tweeters from there and speakers in the doors and might use the Eton main speakers in the rear.

Will the head unit take it?

Not sure what you mean by "take it". No problem playing music but frequency response is a problem. Bass is deeper with the Focals than with the OEM speakers. Treble better too IMHO. But midrange is quite peaky at 1Khz from the head unit. Regardless of after market speaker you use. There might be a secret trick to disable the head unit to stop it from destroying the frequency response. Other than that you'll need to add a proper EQ to rectify it.

Just booked mine in for:

Alpine PWD X5
focal ISTOY 165 fronts
Focal IC Toy 165 rears
Road kill deadening behind all speakers
Stinger pro cables.

Full REW, EQ, TA, XOs etc.

We will see....

Warning #2;

This doesn't matter equally as much because the workaround is easy. But I just found that theToyota head unit has built in DSP and has built in delay turned on for the speakers (left front verified). So do NOT add delay in your after market DSP when playing music from the Toyota head unit. Then you get double delay and sound stage goes bananas ?

The headunit has a max output and will never exceed it.
If your speakers can handle more you will never be able to use the full potential of your speakers.
In that case you would need to add an amplifier.
I would also add an equaliser (as has been suggested before by @MagnusT ) .
Toyota makes a tuning for each vehicle specific, this tuning is made with the standard speakers. So if you would put a headunit of the C-HR in the GRY it would sound completely different.

The cars that have the JBL system have a tuning in the amplifier and a flat EQ with low output on the headunit.

As the title. Thinking of upgrading the speakers. Any one know the size? Also any recommendations I was thinking focal. After a bit more bass so may be under seat sub. Don't want to go down the road of amps etc... Just something to improve from standard.
Standard speaker size for Toyota is 16cm in the front doors (17cm for JBL), rear speakers are 16 or 14 cm, that depends on the car.
Tweeters are 3cm (JBL can go up to 8cm)
Fixation holes in the doors are also standard for all Toyota's.

My worries with the speakers dont want to end. ?

Eton speakers from Hasler were not direct fit so I bought a new Focal IS 165 Toy kit. What arrived is almost the same but French variant with code FI PCT 165-4. Tweeters connect fine but the main speakers are not with the same plug as Toyota and the housing has to be modified slightly to fit the mounting points.

Those who have fitted the 165 Toy - is it plug and play with correct connectors?

Yes, adapters included

But as said before, you need to add an EQ to benefit the improved speakers in the midrange. Bass and treble sounds improved without an EQ (although deep bass is cut from the head unit but pretty low down). But midrange gets kinda odd without a proper multi band EQ.

This is what the Circuit Pack Head unit will play in to your speakers:

Not sure if relevant, but it might help someone.

You can get 17cm all round with no issue if you are replacing with aftermarket speakers (and custom mounts - making mounts for the GR is quite easy)
