Having been there already in my car, I can tell you that I didn't think that there was really anything worthwhile to gain by going any faster. It hits top speed in 5th gear. Any change up to 6th and it really slows any acceleration. Given 143mph is the top of 5th there isn't much to gain really sitting there in 6th waiting for it to go up. You'd need a long stretch of autobahn for that.

Where did you take it on your test drive? I went out towards the airport, which is my commute into Leicester. Then played around those roads for half an hour, before heading back.

 

"if" I did test the car I would have first tested it in an urban environment, Ie how it handles Ramps and bumps...

Then it would head out for high speed test and stability on the main road heading towards you... Headbutting it's vmax "apparently"

Then those roads around where you went would be where I would test it's b road ability over twisties and a few bumps and jumps....

"If" my "friend" "would" allow "apparently" all safely of course...

3 times that day the planes were not the only vehicles in that vicinity catching air ??‍??

You dont need more top speed to piss them off. All you have to do is do 120 kph in the left lane. Easier, cheaper and not so sure about safer

 

 

Bear in mind Japanese cars are limited to 112mph from the factory, so I wonder if this would be effective in delimiting a non-JDM car.

 

What else can the dealer do? Code autolocking after 5mph+ or is that in the settings somewhere? Only skimmed through the manual in my 2 day ownership lol...

 

He drove up to 200, couldnt he drive up to top speed to see if it stil maxes out at 240?!

The fun zone on B roads must be between 50 and 100mph if your doing more than the top end on B roads you are braver than me.

 

Maybe one of the main dealers or Toyota technicians could comment .

i'm with. don't even lock my doors over night. sometimes don't even take the keys out.
not all countries are the same though.

 

i didn't find the GR felt too good over 230/235km/h. maybe the winter tyres - but more likely just the aero isn't set up for it. i won't be driving mine more that 220 km/h. frankly it just doesn't feel safe. in contrast to my M5 and 911 which both feel like you can read a book and steer with one finger at 270km/h.

 

I was still able to drive at 230 with one hand and recording the limiter cutting off speed with my mobile, so I'd say it's stable enough (and I am on winter tires). Propably not as stable as my E92 M3 (but that was 30% more weight than he GR Yaris). I would prefer a bit more heavy steering though at these speeds

 

I certainly won’t want to be driving such an SWB car over 140mph. I have driven plenty of other cars above that speed, but all had longer wheelbases, and were designed for higher sustained top speed and cruising.

Doesn't the GT3 have a shorter wheelbase than the GRY?

 

I hit the limiter quite easily in mine the other night.
I would be quite happy to go beyond this speed, the car was still pulling quite strongly.

 

pulls ok yes but doesn't feel aerodynamically stable. far too twitchy compared to cars designed to go that speed (aka german cars).

Can't say i agree! I have been in 4 events the past two months, all of them at >300km away from where I live. Been doing most of the Autobahn sections flat out at 230kph and the car is totally fine and confidence inspiring - if there is such thing at these speeds with any car (maybe the perfect German roads help a lot). The car is not GT for sure in terms of noise but having family sedans overtaking at 240kph is just ridiculous when you know there is at least 20kph of top speed left on the table because of the speed limiter!

 

We drive only max 120km/h in Finland so top speed it is kind of useless unless you do European trips. Given the car's spec and sould ballistic in gear acceleration is more in line than top speed of +230km/h or whatever as it's only marketing talk in practice. If it was perfect world car would be geared so that it reaches it's max speed with 6th Gear. maybe with shorter final drive or thighter gearing from Cusco it could be done. Found little reviews of those, it would be surely be interesting!

 

Our legal limit here, in most of NZ is 100KPH, get caught at 140+ & you are instantly walking for 28 days, then most likely another 5 months minimum...

So a top speed limiter on all but race tracks is immaterial here

 

we often gear rally cars slightly shorter than top speed needed. better to hold it on the limiter for a couple of seconds on the occasional long straight and have lower gearing for the rest of the time.
